Special Delivery!
I love delivery food. It's not really the taste of it (the wife makes better home-made versions of everything we've had), but the convenience sure is nice. I like not having to make myself presentable to drive out to a place to eat or to wait in line to get some food to bring home sometimes.
Don't get me wrong, I do really enjoy going out to dinner with the wife. I'm always the one that suggests eating out instead of making food at home, actually. Thankfully she stops me, otherwise we'd be eating out every night and spending hundreds of dollars a month on food that we could probably be making at home. When you're not in the mood to go out and eat, though, sometimes it'd be nice if the same food could come home.
Apparently it can. I got an ad in the mail the other day for some restaurant delivery company. I can't remember the name of it and can't find the ad, but basically they would pick up food for you from a variety of local restaurants and deliver it for a 20% charge of the full purchase price. Not bad. I don't plan to use them, though. I much prefer actually eating at the restaurants they deliver for, like CPK. Quick food that I usually just take out to eat at home is my desire.
On Tuesday I overheard my office mate telling someone that Quiznos delivers now. At first I thought it was mainly going to be catering or large orders only, but was pleasantly surprised to see that their only requirement is a minimum order of $8.00. Sweet! I decided to give them a try and ordered lunch for the wife and me at work before I left. They estimated that it would get to our apartment at 12:55pm.
The delivery man arrived a bit early (which was nice) and handed me the bag of food. He told me that everything was in there and once I acknowledged that, he left. Payment was handled easily online with my credit card, where I also applied a tip. Can't get any easier than that! Surprisingly, they were even able to handle our customizations without us being there to watch the sandwich be made. I was expecting at least something small to be wrong but everything came exactly as we ordered, and they even threw in a free cookie. I definitely can't complain and will probably be ordering from them again soon.
If more companies adopt a delivery system like this I would be incredibly happy. I hate having to wait in line at Del Taco or Togos and would much rather just wait for a delivery person to show up at my apartment with my food. Having to drive to the restaurant, wait for the food, and then drive back home to eat it is annoying. I'm even willing to pay more for the delivery and wouldn't be opposed to something around 20% of the total purchase price.
Call me lazy if you want but I'm sure that if it were mainstream, almost everyone would try it at least once. It's not something that I would use every day or even every time I wanted food from that restaurant. I do enjoy going out, but you can't deny that it would be handy.
