Busy, busy
I've been super busy at work recently and haven't had much personal time to do things like update my blog or dedicate any real time to social networking or checking up on Facebook after I leave for the day. When I get home the last thing I want to do is sit at a computer, much to the chagrin of the news junkie side of me. I have been able to drag myself online to play some World of Warcraft, however, and that's enjoyable. I do hope to be able to spend some time this weekend catching up on all that I've missed online and in the news over the past week, though taxes threaten to take up at least the greater part of one of my days.
Work was always fairly busy for me, but I was generally able to get out a bit early and catch up with things at home or use a bit more personal time at work and stick around the office a while later. Not recently, though. From the time I get in to the time I leave there's generally always something to do. I guess that's the way work is supposed to be but my company's environment is incredibly laid back and generally subscribes to the "as long as your work gets done" mantra. This is a bit of a change, but a nice one.
It feels great to not only be doing more work and getting more things doing, but taking on separate and special projects to better enhance and create a customer-facing community is ridiculously fun. Instead of dedicating my entire to day to poring through our support queue to assist users via email, I'm able to spend time reaching out to customers directly through social networks and other sources online. I man the Twitter account during the day, browse Web Hosting Talk for relevant threads to chime in on or users to assist, update our Facebook page, and read Alerts that Google sends me when our company is mentioned somewhere, anywhere, online so that I can respond if necessary. Even though more of my day is spent inside my office I definitely feel like I'm being more social, and to the benefit of the company.
Hopefully the fruits of my labor are enjoyed by all and can help steer the company in a new, more social media conscious, direction. If it doesn't, at least I found a new way to connect with our customers and make it easier for them to connect with us and at least I've been busy.
There is, potentially, more major changes coming in the near future for me that I'm really looking forward to. New opportunities within the company are becoming available and I'm in the process of working toward one of them now. I hope that there will be some more good news to share soon. It's an exciting time.
