McCain should've skipped the debate

I was really excited when I learned that McCain had decided to attend the first debate of the presidential election between the two candidates. Passing on this was one of the worst political moves, I thought, and McCain did himself a favor by attending. When I watched the debate last night, though, it looks to me like he should've skipped it after all.

Obama did a fantastically good job at keeping things simple, well thought out, and mostly spin-free. McCain seemed to do the exact opposite, confusing us with his web of words that sounded like they came straight from the Bush Speech Preparation Department™. He was like an (old) broken record, seemingly forgetting that he was being asked different questions. Every response was somehow related to honor and pork barrel spending. Could he not come up with anything else? Sure, Obama repeated himself on a few things but, from what I saw, that was mostly because McCain kept sharing miss-truths about Obama's policy that needed to be corrected.

I'm neither more or less likely to vote for either candidate after the debate and poll results are mostly showing that they were pretty even the whole time. Sure, I'm biased and was going to vote for Obama no matter the outcome, but I'm at least happy that Obama was able to clear up some of the lies that McCain has been spreading lately. What happened when Obama brought up the lies and miss-truths of the McCain campaign? There was no defense. We just got to see a stupid "you got me" smirk on McCain's face all night. He never shot back and tried to disprove anything negative that Obama said about him and his campaign. It's hard to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people when they're staring right at you... even for Republicans.
